Validate and import any data into your ChMS through Next Steps via CSV import! Almost all online forms (Google, Gravity, Wufoo, JotForms, etc), will allow you to export the data via a CSV file or you can export from your favorite spreadsheet program into a CSV file.
Follow the instructions below to create a CSV Upload template you can use to import your data into your ChMS.
Creating a Next Steps CSV Template
To upload a CSV file into a template, select Templates from the side menu, give your template a name, and choose CSV Upload as the Template Type.
Select the Campus you want to associate the contacts with, and the New Adult and New Child Membership Type you want all new contacts to receive.
Once you have completed your selections, click Next Step to continue.
Mapping Your CSV Column Headers to Database Fields
To map your CSV column headers to your database fields, click Add Column Header, and type or paste the title of your first CSV column header in the Column Header field*.
*note: this value must exactly match the column header text in your CSV file.
Map the column header value to your corresponding database field by selecting it from the Field Type drop-down menu.
Add more column headers and map them in the same manner by clicking the Add Column Header button and repeating the steps above.
Mapping Fields with Multiple Values
Occasionally, you may have a CSV file that contains several identical header titles, each representing a different possible value for a checkbox or multiple choice question.
In the example below, the column headers named My Decision Today could represent responses such as Prayed to Receive Christ, I Want to Join a Small Group, etc., from a contact card or a web form.
To capture the value for each entry:
- name the field according to the column header title
- select Process Item as the Field Type
- enter the possible value and its corresponding Process Item from the drop-down menu
- select Add Another Checkbox to enter each additional option for the column header value
When you have mapped all of your fields, select Finish Template to save your template.
Using a CSV Template
To use a CSV Upload template, navigate to the Batches tab, and select the new template from the menu.
Name your Batch, verify the date, check the box to assign the date as the membership start date for anyone added in this import (or leave unchecked), and click Create Batch to continue.
Now you have the option to upload your CSV file for processing. Drag your file into the box, and click Submit Batch to process your new CSV Upload Batch!
